Follow our step by step guide below to learn how to craft the perfect brew! Make sure to also follow us on Facebook and Instagram @shop.vanillabean to keep up with our new pieces and style tips. :)

Choosing the Right Press

Although all French Presses have the same basic structure, there's a few things to consider before buying your own. Simple things such as style or design are good to compare, but quality is the most important aspect. Look for a press that is sturdy and well designed, and make sure your coffee of choice is a trusted brand! Neither of these need to cost a fortune, and vary based on personal preference and style.

Our French Press is a great choice for beginners and pros alike; with a minimal style yet sturdy design, it's the best of both worlds!

Prepare Your Press

One of the most important steps that many forget is to warm up your Press! Before beginning your brew, let some hot sit in the press for a few minutes. Preheating helps your brew stay at a more consistent temperature during the brewing process, resulting in a smoother, stronger flavor. Once you let your press warm up, it's time to get brewing!

Making the Coffee

For a French Press, you'll have to use ground coffee. You can buy beans preground, or get whole beans and grind them fresh for the best tasting cup! Regardless which way you choose to get your beans, make sure your grind is not too fine. The perfect cup requires about 2 tablespoons of a medium coarse grind for each cup of water used. There is an aspect of trial and error with different beans and brew amounts, so modify your own recipe as you try!

The Complete Coffee Grind Size Guide For Every Coffee Drink

After preheating your press, add your coffee grind and fill with water halfway. Give a quick swirl and then let sit for roughly one minute. At that point, you should notice some buildup at the top of your coffee. Take a spoon or stirrer and mix to fully combine all the grinds. Once this step is completed, add water fully to your press and let steep for about 5 minutes.

Time to Press!

After steeping for 5 minutes, slowly press down on the top until the filter has fully reached the bottom of the press. After that, you're coffee is ready to be served! Whether you enjoy your coffee hot or iced, this brew will definitely be tasty! :) If you have guests over and need more coffee, simply repeat the process as many times as needed. It doesn't get easier than that!
